To block Snapchat at night on iPhone, add a Screen Time Schedule in iOS 27, or turn on Downtime with Block at Downtime in iOS 26, covering bedtime to wake time. Snapchat has no bedtime setting of its own, so send your snaps before the block starts and let the phone handle the rest.
Most people who want to block Snapchat at night are not trying to quit it. They are trying to stop the 11pm check turning into an hour. Snapchat is different from a feed app, because it comes with a daily deadline built in, and that deadline does not care what time it is.
Your iPhone can close the app for you. Below are the current steps, then the honest part about streaks.
How to block Snapchat at night on iPhone
Apple renamed these settings in iOS 27. Use the section that matches your phone.
iOS 27: Screen Time Schedule
In iOS 27, Screen Time uses Schedules for when you can use apps and Time Allowances for how long.1
- Open Settings, then tap Screen Time.
- Tap Screen Time Schedule, then turn on Schedule.1
- Tap Add Schedule, tap the days of the week you want, then confirm.
- Tap the Time Window, rename it to something like Night, then set the start and stop times.1
- Choose which Time Allowance categories stay available in that window, and leave Social Media out.
- Tap Always Allowed and add the people you might genuinely need to reach at night.1
Apple notes that Schedules and Time Allowances need iOS 27 or later on all your Apple devices.1
iOS 26: Downtime and App Limits
On iOS 26, Downtime does the scheduling and App Limits do the daily caps.2
- Open Settings, tap Screen Time, then tap App & Website Activity and turn it on if it is off.
- Tap Downtime, then tap Scheduled.
- Choose Every Day or Customize Days, then set your start and end times.2
- Go back into Downtime and turn on Block at Downtime.2
- Check Always Allowed, since Apple lets you keep chosen apps and contacts available during downtime.2
Use a Screen Time passcode you do not use elsewhere. If your limits keep failing, read why Screen Time limits stop working.
Snapchat streaks: the deadline you carry to bed
Snapchat says that when you and a friend snap back and forth at least once a day, every day, you are on a Streak, and that a fire emoji then shows on the Chat screen.3 To keep it going, both of you need to send a photo or video Snap in the chat every day. Text chats do not count. In a group chat, most members must send a photo or video Snap each day.3
When a Streak is close to ending, Snapchat shows an hourglass emoji next to the chat.3 Snapchat also offers Streak reminders, which notify you when a Streak is about to expire. You turn one on by pressing and holding a friend in your Chat feed, tapping Chat and Notification Settings, then switching on Streak Reminder. Snapchat says reminders are only available for active Streaks and you have to re enable the reminder for any new Streaks.4
Put those together and you get a daily task with a countdown, which lands whenever it lands. That is the bit that drags people back to the phone late. It is a common thread in phone addiction signs.
How to keep streaks and still block Snapchat at bedtime
- Pick a snap time, earlier in the evening, and do all your streaks in one go.
- Set your night block to start after that time.
- Turn on Streak Reminder only for the handful of streaks you actually care about.4
- Mute the rest. On the Chat screen, press and hold a friend's name, tap Chat and Notification Settings, tap Notification Settings, then turn on Mute Chats or Mute Calls.5
- Decide honestly which streaks are worth a late night. Most are not.
Does Snapchat have a bedtime setting?
Not one we could find for adults. Snapchat's help pages cover notification controls and Family Center, which Snapchat describes as a way for a parent to see who their teen has chatted with recently without reading messages, see their friends, limit sensitive content and stop My AI replying to their teen.6 That page does not describe a nightly limit or a bedtime setting, and we found no equivalent in app control for adults on Snapchat's help site, checked September 2026.
So unlike TikTok, Instagram and YouTube, there is no in app reminder to fall back on. The block has to come from the phone.
Why a night block beats a daily limit
Late is where the time goes. Ofcom found that among UK children aged 8 to 14, Snapchat takes an average of 45 minutes a day, and that across YouTube, Snapchat, TikTok and WhatsApp, 15 to 24 percent of the time spent for that age group happens between 9pm and 5am.7
That late time has a cost. In a study of 45,202 Norwegian university students aged 18 to 28, each extra hour of screen use after going to bed was linked to 59 percent higher odds of reporting insomnia symptoms and to 24 minutes less sleep. The link was not significantly different for social media than for other screen activities, so it is the time in bed that matters.8 The NHS suggests trying not to use phones, tablets or computers for an hour before bed.9
And firm limits do more than soft ones. In the randomised experiment behind the paper Digital Addiction, the authors report that allowing people to set limits on their future screen time substantially reduces use, and estimate that self control problems account for 31 percent of social media use.10
| Option | What it does at night | Can you carry on? |
|---|---|---|
| Mute Chats for a friend | Stops that chat notifying you | Yes, the app still opens |
| Streak Reminder off | Removes one prompt to come back | Yes, the app still opens |
| iOS 27 Screen Time Schedule | Sets when apps are available | Depends on your passcode |
| iOS 26 Downtime, Block at Downtime on | Apps dim and will not open | Only with the passcode |
| Bedtime app blocker | Blocks chosen apps every night | Depends on the app |
A daily limit is the wrong shape for Snapchat anyway, because short checks all day add up quietly. A night boundary is clearer. More on that in how to stop scrolling in bed.
Where SETL fits
SETL is an iPhone app blocker built bedtime first, on Apple's Screen Time framework. Set your bedtime once and your chosen apps, Snapchat included, are blocked automatically every night. Apple gives SETL private tokens, so SETL never learns which apps you picked and your Screen Time data stays on the phone. If you want the streaks done early and the phone closed after, SETL Sleep is built for that.
